Josephine Koh Piano Academy (JKPA)  is a premier school for piano and theory lessons located at Binjai Park, in Bukit Timah in Singapore. Established since 1995, the artistic culture of JKPA emphasizes holistic development. It is our mission to ensure all students are trained to achieve both academically and artistically. Through the years, we take pride in nurturing students into confident pianists with wonderful stage presence and personalities.  Beyond excellence in music, many of our piano diploma graduates have become outstanding individuals in society, enriched by the disciplined study of music that is carried into their adult and professional lives. ​

This event was recently over on 20 June 2024 at the Victoria Concert Hall. 
Ms Josephine Koh is the Artistic Director, Conductor and Pianist at this concert. ​
Dr Pipetius Quah studied under his mother Josephine Koh and is currently a medical specialist at Woodlands Health.  ​

RECENT RESULTS  (JUNE/JULY 2024) 

Claire Liang, age 10, Gifted Programme at JKPA since 2022, achieved Grade 8 Distinction under Dr Jip Quah with 145/150
Ng Jing Rui, age 16.  Studied under Miss Colette Tan completed Grade 8 in 2022 and now achieved ARSM with merit (42/50) under Dr Jip Quah ​
Arielle Ee, music teacher, studied AMusTCL under Ms Josephine Koh and scored 73/100

MARCH: Josephine Koh represented Singapore to adjudicate in the Chopin International Piano Competition in USA.
APRIL: Students took part in masterclasses of the Singapore Chopin International Piano Competitiom 
MAY: Success stories of students. Another Distinction at LTCL 
JUNE: Josephine Koh conducted lectures for teachers in CHINA - Shanghai and Beijing
JULY - AUGUST: Students took part in various piano competitions. Claire Liang won GOLD in the Junior category of the Raffles Music Festival. Xavier Sheng achieved the highest score in the Youth category of the Kayserburg Competition and was selected to represent Singapore in the Grand Finals in China.   Brendon Lee qualified as one of the 6 finalists.  
AUGUST: National Day Celebration @ Binjai Park.  Our students performed at the Street Bazzaar for Minister Sim Ann.  
SEPTEMBER: Students took part in the Joyeux Music International Competition and performed in the Gala Winners' Concert.
OCTOBER: Mirelle Quah won the 1st prize in the Kayserburg Piano Competition Grade 8 category.  Many graded level students continue to achieve distinctions in the ABRSM exams.
NOVEMBER: Students once again prepare for their year end diploma exams.  Dr Krystian Tkaczewski came by to conduct masterclasses. 
DECEMBER: The CHRISTMAS PARTY CONCERT gathered jolly musicians, as families together to share and enjoy the occasion.

Our Aims & Goals

  • ​Our trained piano teachers are performance based with high academic standing.  As such our focus is to provide students with the best possible mental training and opportunities to develop their talents in music. 
  • All students are taught to strive to excel both in music theory and in piano performance.​
  • Graduates from our programmes would be proficient to engage in discussions on topics including harmony, counterpoint, musical history, composers and their works.
  • Our piano lessons and unique course programmes serve to impart the right values to nurture the young.
  • Our students are groomed to have aspirations, growing into responsible young adults, most of whom excel in the fields of medicine, law, music, engineering and education. 

The JKPA Method

  • Our Gifted Music Programme is performance focused and examination oriented, based on the ABRSM syllabi.
  • Evaluation of students' progress is made through series of performance classes, masterclasses and close working relationship between teachers and parents.
  • All students are strongly encouraged to participate in concerts, masterclasses and competitions.
  • Our model is unique in Singapore, developed and refined for almost 30 years, based on the ideologies and training methods used in top European conservatories.  Our standards and  expectations are high, yet caring and nurturing for all students.

Who enrols at JKPA? Here are the profiles of our students:
  • Gifted Music Programme - Talented students who complete ABRSM Piano Grade 8 before the age of 12.  
  • Diploma Programme - students who pursue Associate, Licientiate or Fellowship diplomas (from ages 11-30)
  • Professional Development Programme - Music teachers from the ages of 25 -50 who seek further knowledge to develop their careers.
  • Music Elective Programmes at 'O' and 'A' levels - Students  are typically from the following schools:  RI, RGS, MGS, NYGH,ACS, TKGS, RVH
