CERTIFICATE IN TEACHING OF MUSIC THEORY
CTMT Grades 6 - 8 (20-week course)
Pre-requisite: Pass in ABRSM Grade 8 Practical and Grade 6 Theory
This course is suitable for teachers who wish to gain confidence in teaching music theory at the higher grades. An effective pedagogical approach is used to clarify theoretical concepts and ensure effectiveness in teaching. This course covers:
• Overview of ABRSM syllabus and examination requirements
• Aspects of Harmony of the Common Practice Period from the Baroque to the Romantic eras – Chord Progressions, Modulations, Secondary 7th chords, Diminished 7th, Neapolitan 6th, Augmented 6th chords, Borrowed Chords, Altered Chords, Dominant extensions and Secondary Dominants.
• In lecture-tutorial settings, teachers are equipped with skills to facilitate understanding, reinforce concepts and ensure information is retained.
• Enhanced audio-visual sessions ensure critical listening and analytical skills at the professional level are developed.
• Tutorials and discussions serve to clarify teachers’ doubts.
• Course module include techniques of Melodic Writing & Stylistic Composition.
• Understanding and study of Form, Structure, History and Composers’ styles.

*Individual consultation lessons are at $100 per hour. Upon successful completion of CTMT 7 and CTMT 8, attendees with will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.
PIANO MASTERCLASS: Piano Performance/Teaching
Piano masterclass, for performance or teaching for music teachers only, on an individual or small group basis is now made available with Ms Josephine Koh. Each consultation session may be arranged by private appointment. Fees from $120 per hour.
